Kwikot Joins Global Business Leaders in Driving a Just Energy Transition

South Africa Leads the Global Conversation at the G20

On 4 September, 2025, South Africa officially handed over its Business 20 (B20) Task Force recommendations to the G20, marking a historic milestone in the first-ever Africa-led G20 Presidency. Among the businesses shaping this global agenda is Kwikot, a Silver Tier Sponsor of B20 South Africa 2025 and an active participant in the Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force.

The handover, held in Johannesburg, consolidated months of business-led consultation into a package of recommendations designed to accelerate the global clean-energy transition and enable inclusive, sustainable growth.

The B20 Energy Priorities: Infrastructure, Finance, Renewables and Innovation

The Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force, in which Kwikot plays a key role, put forward solutions to:

  • Expand and modernise energy infrastructure
  • Mobilise sustainable financing for transition pathways and climate resilience
  • Accelerate renewable-energy adoption while safeguarding energy security
  • Drive innovation in green technologies and across the energy value chain

With South Africa’s energy context in focus, these recommendations highlight the urgent need for public-private collaboration. Business leaders emphasised that Africa is not only participating but leading the global conversation on energy resilience and inclusivity.

Why Household Water Heating Matters in a Just Transition

The Scale of Household Load

Household water heating is one of the most energy-intensive needs in the home. The geyser typically accounts for a significant share of monthly electricity use, making it a prime candidate for efficiency and renewable interventions. At national scale, reducing hot-water demand eases pressure on the grid and supports energy security.

The Opportunity to Save

By moving from traditional electric-only heating to solar, gas, or heat-pump solutions—and by adding smart controls—households can reduce electricity use, cut costs, and help free up grid capacity.

Kwikot’s Role: Practical, Renewable-Ready Solutions for Real Homes

For over 100 years, Kwikot has helped South African households access reliable hot water. Today, that legacy of reliability is paired with a forward-looking approach to efficiency, renewables and smart control.

Renewable & High-Efficiency Options

Kwikot’s portfolio provides multiple on-ramps to a cleaner energy future:

  • Kwiksol Direct 150 L (Frost-Free) with panel (solar geysers)
  • Kwiksol Indirect 150 L (Frost) with panel (for cold/high-altitude regions)
  • Gasmate 11 L | 14 L | 20 L (continuous-flow gas water heaters)
  • Kwikpump HP-200-V | HP-300-V (high-efficiency heat pumps)

A Message from Kwikot’s Leadership

“South Africa’s just transition will succeed only if it is inclusive – reaching households as much as industries. Kwikot’s role in the B20 is about ensuring that everyday people benefit from cleaner, more affordable energy solutions. We also recognise that the upfront cost of transitioning to alternatives like solar, gas, or heat pumps remains out of reach for many households. That is why we hope to work alongside the Department of Energy and Electricity to design programmes that make adoption more affordable and widespread, ultimately reducing household electricity consumption and alleviating pressure on the national grid,” said Murray Crow, Managing Director of Kwikot.

From Policy to Impact: What Comes Next

Financing the Transition

A just energy transition requires enabling finance. Kwikot supports mechanisms that help households invest in solar thermal, heat pumps, gas and PV-assisted systems—lowering monthly costs while reducing grid reliance.

Access and Affordability

Affordability is crucial. Entry points like Elon 100 turn existing electric geysers into PV-assisted systems with minimal disruption, while gas and heat pumps offer clear efficiency benefits in different contexts.
